Making another trek across the country, Team Crosslink will descend on the Virginia International Raceway (VIR) for the penultimate weekend in both the F4 and FR championships. With five drivers scattered across the two open-wheel classes, Team Crosslink will look to continue to gather points towards the individual Drivers Championship as well as the Team Championship battle.
“We have had some good success as of late, and I am confident that we can keep that momentum going at VIR,” explained Team Manager Sean Owens. “Four drivers are a lot to manage, but we do it well and have success too.”
In the FR Americas Championship Powered by Honda, Team Crosslink will enter 2021 race winners Josh Car and Dylan Tavella. Car sits second on the championship table a mere 49 markers on the strength of three race wins and eight podium results. Riding a wave of momentum, Car has won the last two races and decreased the points gap to the leader. Tavella, a rookie in the series, has earned two podium results including a race win back at Road America. Looking to regain his momentum, VIR could be the track where Tavella finds his way back to the podium.
A pair of drivers will throw their names into the mix in the F4 United States Championship led by Chase Gardner and Ryan Shehan. As rookies in the series, Gardner has earned the team’s best results of the season as both he and Shehan have been in points paying positions throughout 2021. Entering the weekend, both drivers will be F4 rookies at the VIR facility but will turn to their more experienced FR teammates for knowledge and advice.
Owens added, “This coming event is important for us as a program. We have a chance to close the gap in the FR points battle but also to have good results that will help us sell our efforts in 2022. We sit second in the FR Team Championship as well considering we have two drivers with the opportunity to garner points compared to the current leader with four. Either way, it has been a successful season and we are looking to finish it strong.”
Team Crosslink drivers will hit the track on Friday for event practice with qualifying taking place Saturday morning and wheel-to-wheel action over the weekend.
